Javier Ameijeiras ’05, who was the assistant art director on the opening titles of HBO’s Bored to Death, was surprised when the project won the category of Outstanding Main Title Design during the 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards. “I did not find out until almost a year later when I was congratulated by a designer,” he said. “I was caught off guard and had to go online to confirm it.”
Since studying at MICA, Ameijeiras has worked on a large array of films and television shows. In that time, he has contributed to additional Emmy-winning art departments, Oscar-nominated films, and a Tony-award winning production. He was the art director for 2016's Grease Live!, theatrical concept artist for 2017's Beauty and Beast, was concept illustrator for the hit Broadway show Hamilton, and was concept illustrator for live events including Bruno Mars New Years Concert and Andrea Bocelli's 2016 Tour
“MICA gave me time and a foundation to better my skills, and the Student Activities and Admissions Offices taught me the business skills I need to thrive as an entrepreneur,” Ameijeiras said when talking about his experience at the College.
