Get Your Green Quotient

Visitors new to Baltimore often remark on how green they find the city, and the amount of trees covering our streets is no accident. For years, city agencies and nonprofits have coordinated to increase the tree canopy of Baltimore. In fact, National Geographic recently ranked Baltimore among the nation's top nine "Cities That Love Their Trees."

Baltimore's green spaces are flourishing, increasing to 28 in 2015, based on data analyzed by the Forest Service and in collaboration with City of Baltimore and the University of Vermont. For comparison, New York City's tree canopy is 24 percent, Los Angeles's is 20 percent, and Philadelphia's is 20 percent.

MICA's campus, located in historic Bolton Hill, is filled with tree-lined streets and green spaces. And steps away are a variety of outdoor spaces where you can get your green quotient.
