After graduating RISD with a degree in furniture design, Garrett lived and worked in a Buddhist monastery doing sculptural welding. After that, he moved to Grand Rapids, MI to work as the chief preparator at the Grand Rapids Art Museum. There he designed and installed changing exhibitions. After moving to Baltimore in 2012, he started Goodwood Design to bring life to his furniture designs. In his free time, he still spends most of his time working in the shop, building furniture.
