Soheila Ghaussy, a multi-disciplinary scholar in literature, gender and Middle Eastern studies, earned a PhD. in Comparative Literature from Purdue University, and has published academic articles and poetry in international literary and academic journals.

Soheila earned her Magister der Literaturwissenschaften (the equivalent of a MA degree) from Hamburg University, where she majored in English and American Literature and minored in Middle Eastern Studies. She also worked as a freelance ESL and DAF instructor, and a journalist and translator in Germany. She has worked as a professor at MICA since 2001 and as Department Chair from 2015-2018 in the Department of Humanistic Studies. She teaches literature, film, critical theory, intellectual history courses and academic writing workshops, as well as ELL supported sections of these courses, at the undergraduate and graduate level. She continues to teach ESL and Intercultural Communication in Germany during the summers, holds poetry readings and lectures and publishes on feminism, Third World women and women in Afghanistan. Soheila is currently working on a chapbook of poetry and is co-authoring A Concise Religious and Cultural History of Afghanistan, a book on the complex multi-cultural and multi-religious background of her home country.
