Prescriptions and Local Pharmacies

What do I need to know about psychiatric medication prescriptions?

Getting My Prescription

If you do not have any psychiatric medication prescriptions, the MICA Student Counseling Center (SCC) can help you find a psychiatrist to prescribe you the correct medication. If you have a prescription but it is expired, you can go to the Student Health Center (bring your medication bottle and medical records, if you have them) and request an appointment to get a new prescription. If you’re unsure about what you need, you can always make an appointment with the Student Health Center to see how they can help.

Filling My Prescription

If you have an active prescription, but you are out of your medication and need to fill your prescription, this means you need to go to a pharmacy to get more medication. Check to see if you have refills available on your prescription (usually on the bottle itself). If you don’t have any more refills (see Renewing My Prescription below). The MICA Student Health Center cannot fill your prescription, as they are not a pharmacy. Local pharmacies close to MICA campus are listed below for your convenience.

Renewing My Prescription

If you are out of medication and out of refills, you need to get your prescription renewed before you can fill it. If your medication provider is in Maryland, you can call their office and ask to refill your prescription or renew your prescription. They can call it into one of the pharmacies below for you to then pick up or have it delivered. If your medication provider is from out of state, you can go to the MICA Student Health Center (bring your medication bottle and medical records, if you have them) and request an appointment to get a new prescription. Medication providers cannot prescribe medication over state lines.  If you’re unsure about what you need, you can always make an appointment with the Student Health Center to see how they can help.
