The Division of Student Affairs offers a resource called the Angel Fund to assist and support enrolled, full-time undergraduate students who experience a short term financial hardship.
A request for the Angel Fund can be up to $300.00. Students may receive grant funding from the Angel Fund two times over the course of their experience at MICA, but only once in any given semester.
In order to receive an award from the Angel Fund, students must complete an online application and provide supporting documentation. During the academic year, requests will be reviewed by the Angel Fund committee weekly. Depending on the nature of the request, you may be asked for further clarification and/or additional documentation.
Examples of items eligible for assistance due to short term financial hardship include but are not limited to:
- Essential personal belongings lost in a fire, flood, or theft
- Emergency medical treatment/medication that a student does not have the ability to pay and the costs are not covered by their insurance provider, including co-pays for prescription drugs
- Travel expenses to return home in the event of a sudden family death or other emergency
- Essential utility assistance (e.g., water, gas, electricity)
- Essential car repair to maintain access to reliable transportation to classes
Examples of items that ARE NOT eligible for assistance:
- Tuition and Fees
- Housing or Rental assistance
- Parking tickets
- Non-Essential Utilities (e.g., cable, streaming subscriptions)
- Non-emergency travel
- Furniture, electronics, or other personal belongings
Any questions about this resource may be directed to the Office of Student Affairs at studentaffairs@mica.edu. Please note that funds will be distributed via direct payment/purchase of the items in question. The committee does not issue funds directly to a student and the committee does not provide reimbursement for previously purchased materials. Please allow a minimum of seven business days for review of each request.
