Student Space Galleries

The Student Space Gallery program provides undergraduate and graduate students with the opportunity to exhibit their art in one of our five gallery spaces on campus.

Applying for an Exhibition

All rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors and grad students can apply for a solo show by submitting your body of work, artist statement, budget, and space proposal. The SSG Jury, consisting of current MICA grad and undergrad students, will review all submissions anonymously and collectively determine the best work for the gallery spaces. Throughout each semester there are 18 slots available, with receptions happening monthly at the start of install rotation.

Artists gain experience in curating their work, submitting a professional application for a juried show, installation/deinstallation, hosting a gallery opening reception, and more.

The Galleries

There are five student space galleries on campus dedicated exclusively to solo undergraduate student exhibitions throughout the year — Pinkard Gallery, The Great White Wall, Lazarus 1 Gallery, and Gateway Galleries 1 and 2.

Pinkard Student Space Gallery, housed on the first floor of the Bunting Center across from the Decker Library, is most conducive for works of video, interactive media, installation, sculpture and fibers. This is the only gallery that can be painted.

Lazarus 1 Gallery is down the hall on the 1st floor of the Fred Lazarus Center. It is the only gallery where work can be hung from the ceiling and gets a large amount of foot traffic.

The Gateway is home to three Student Space Galleries. All galleries in the Gateway can be found on the first floor, outside BBOX Theater. These three gallery spaces are best suited for two dimensional work, sculpture and installations. Larger pieces work extremely well in this open space.
