Gateway, First Floor
Every college needs a small stage to show off its community's less gallery-centric work, be it interdisciplinary, experimental, or something more traditional. Located in the Gateway Building, MICA's BBOX performance space does just that, promoting work created and performed by MICA students, faculty, and staff, as well as local Baltimore artists.
Named in recognition of two creative MICA spirits, BBOX is a play on "Black Box, Betty, and Bill" - specifically, Betty Cooke ’46 (distinguished designer, 1987 Alumni Award recipient, Alumni Council member, and former MICA faculty member) and William O. Steinmetz ’50 (distinguished designer, 1991 Alumni Award recipient, Alumni Council chair emeritus, MICA trustee, and former MICA faculty member). The space honors these two alumni for their unparalleled commitment to and generous support of the school.
