This capstone project focuses on Toledo, Ohio, as a tourism destination. While most large cities in the nation are recognized as tourism destinations, small and mid-sized cities such as Toledo offer an abundance of Accommodations, Attractions, Activities, Amenities, and Access to also qualify as tourism destinations. These “5 A’s” are known as destination Key Elements and are an objective way to assess locations as tourism destinations. Because downtown Toledo has experienced significant redevelopment in recent years, community investment and local pride has increased. This has created the opportunity to shine a light on Toledo as a leisure tourism destination for individual and group travelers. Project goals include identifying the expanse of Toledo’s tourism assets through data analysis of its destination Key Elements and communicating the data story through a wearable prototype to foster community awareness and support for welcoming leisure tourism to the Toledo area.
