The purpose of an Independent Study is to provide for intensive study in an area of special interest with appropriate College faculty. Students are limited to six (6.00) credits of Independent Study per semester. Independent Study is not equivalent to the undergraduate independent studio courses required in some majors. Participation in an Independent Study is voluntary and may not be offered in all departments nor with all faculty. Supervising faculty members will guide, evaluate, and grade the students completed work. The same quality of work and time invested in traditional class settings is expected of students enrolled in Independent Study courses.
Contracts for Independent Study are available in the Office of Enrollment Services or can be found online. The contract requires a complete description of the work to be undertaken, signatures of the supervising faculty, department Chairperson or Program Director and student, and the student must have a minimum GPA of 3.0. The completed contract must be submitted to the Office of Enrollment Services during registration or within the semesters add period.
