The Office of Culture and Identity presents: AT THE CENTER; our first installment of exhibitions that will highlight artists of differing backgrounds, identities and cultures. Through various mediums such as: animation, illustration, photography, graphic design and sculpture, AT THE CENTER is an interdisciplinary and collective storytelling of identity and belonging. Featuring work from 9 artists who bolster interrogations of self, community, and culture, this show is a celebration of who these artists are and how they visually communicate their ideas.

AT THE CENTER  serves as a reminder to artists who are often told they exist ‘on the margins of society’ to own their narrative. There is great importance of centering your experiences - your history, culture and perspectives. When we place our narratives at the center, we renounce the notion of being ‘marginalized’ and living life ‘outside of’. We are also able to connect more readily with others who are able to do the same thing and position ourselves within a global history. Those who get to publicly remember, celebrate and tell their history are powerful. This is the gift and strength of artists - the ability to tell your story and create your own power. This is the strength and power of being AT THE CENTER.
