Accessibility at Decker

Accessibility at Decker Library: Ensuring Access for All

At Decker Library, we are committed to making our resources accessible to all learners. Whether you need assistance with physical access or require additional support, our staff is here to help.

Facility Accessibility

The majority of Decker Library's collection is on the lower level, which is not accessible by a public elevator. However, we have a solution to ensure you can access the materials you need:

  • Private Elevator Access: We can provide access to a private elevator. If you need to access the lower level of the Library via elevator, please email us at circ@mica.edu at least one hour ahead of time. This ensures that we have staff available to escort you to the keyed elevator and remain with you downstairs, allowing you to take whatever time is needed to browse, print materials, conduct research, or study.
  • Assistance with Materials: Our staff will assist with the physical removal of items from shelves as needed and return them to the first floor.
  • Accessible Restrooms: The nearest accessible restrooms are located on the second floor of the Bunting Center.

Additional Accessibility Measures

  • Material Retrieval: Library staff are happy to retrieve materials directly for you. Request books ahead of time through the Library Catalog or email circ@mica.edu. We retrieve books twice daily and hold items for 7 days.
  • Special Formats: If you need an item in a specific format (closed captioning, large print, etc.), please use our Suggest A Purchase form.
  • Captioned Tutorials: Tutorials made by Decker Library staff with narration will always have captions. Any without captions are in our queue to be redone.
  • OCR Scanning: All Document Delivery requests will be scanned with Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software, ensuring compatibility with most screen readers.
  • Captioned Films: We prioritize purchasing films and television on DVD or Blu-Ray that include captions.
  • ADA/Disability Accommodations: Faculty can alert us to any ADA/Disability Accommodations needed for students during Research Instruction.
