Scholarships
- MICA-sponsored competitive scholarships are awarded to new and returning students based solely on merit. New freshmen and transfer applicants must complete the Admissions Office scholarship application as part of the application for admission (MICA Online Application or CommonApp). Returning student competitive scholarship applications are available in December for the following academic year.
- Maryland state residents are also encouraged to review the array of scholarships available through the Maryland State Office of Student Financial Assistance.
Non-Need Based Loans and Work
- Federal Unsubsidized Direct Loans are available to students regardless of need. Interest rate is fixed at 3.76%. Freshmen may borrow up to $5,500 per year. Sophomores may borrow $6,500 per year, and juniors and seniors may borrow up to $7,500 per year. The undergraduate maximum is $57,000. Although these loans are not based on need, students are required to submit financial aid applications through the regular financial aid process.
- Borrowing opportunities are also available to parents of dependent undergraduate students. This Federal Parent Loan (PLUS) program is not need-based, and eligibility is based on credit-worthiness rather than income. Interest rates are fixed at 6.31%. PLUS Loan amounts can range up to cost of attendence. MICA must certify PLUS Loan applications and a FAFSA is required.
- A number of MICA-funded on-campus work-study employment opportunities are available to students.
