Cut/Fold/Make (Unravel the Code)

Project from MICA's Unravel the Code course

Fold your own vintage computer inspired by MICA’s Unravel the Code course, is an interdisciplinary course that draws upon traditional crafts to explore emerging technologies of making. The course pairs weaving with digital algorithms, origami with parametric laser cutting and handwork with cybernetic systems of control.

This piece was created by Brooke Thyng ’17 (Graphic Design M.F.A) based on her experience in Unravel the Code.

“I decided to go with a vintage computer to play off the idea that traditional craft is often thought of as antiquated or vintage,” she said. “The extra screens feature images of weavings and rhino algorithms we used in class.”
