Hailing from Changsha, Hunan, Eve Liu ’20 (Illustration MA) was heavily influenced by 70s-80s Japanese pop culture. Her work, which weaves storytelling with illustration and animation, blends those more contemporary references with traditional Asian culture — and it has gained substantial engagement on social media as well as accolades by the Society of Illustrators, AI-AP, London International Creative Competition, and more. Liu also attracted the attention of major brands, leading to collaborations on a number of notable projects that promote Asian culture in North America.
Last year, Liu was one of five artists commissioned by Google Chrome to create browser theme backgrounds in celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month. She also worked with Nike during that time, creating an illustration that celebrated the impactful influence of AAPI individuals in sports. Previously, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, she joined with UPS amid widespread "Stop Asian Hate" protests to design a distinctive shipping box cover called Different Cultures, Same Drive.
