Mahnoor is an artist currently attending Maryland Institute College of Art, majoring in Graphic Design. Working digitally and with textiles and dyes, Mahnoor is deeply influenced by her cultural background, family, and spiritual beliefs. Her artistic practice incorporates elements of pattern and calligraphy, possessing a unique, delicate quality that speaks to their identity. Embodying a fusion of tradition and modernity, Her work serves as a reflection of her personal journey and serves as a celebration of diversity and individuality.
Collection Notes
Veiled seeks to not only showcase modest fashion but also to incorporate the powerful voices of Urdu, Persian, and Arabic poets who have explored themes of pain, resilience, and strength in their work. By infusing my garments with the words of poets from South Asia, Central Asia, and the Middle East, I aim to draw attention to the struggles faced by individuals who have been marginalized due to their culture, beliefs, and identity. Throughout history, poets in these regions have used their words as a form of resistance and activism against social injustice, colonial rule, poverty, and oppression. These poets have explored themes such as homelessness, exile, freedom, and the pain associated with dislocation. By incorporating these powerful voices, I hope for a greater understanding and appreciation for their struggles. I believe one does not not need to know the language to understand the message and through this collection I hope the emotions and struggles of these poets shine through.
