Primary Systems Down is a project that speaks to a lot of my interests in both animation and game design. I’ve always been fascinated by very manufactured spaces, and spaceships especially are fully engineered objects. Every part of a ship has to be designed, and that's something I hoped to explore in this project. I’ve also been attached to dungeon crawlers for a long time, and it's been an ambition of mine to make my own. Dungeon crawlers primarily being top down games like The Legend of Zelda and The Binding of Isaac. This game would also be a departure from much of my other primarily animation based work. The visual style I hoped to achieve in this project is a lot more graphic and color based than my previous work, and it's one I’ve grown attached to while working on the game. Unlike many other game design projects, I’ve decided to work on Primary Systems Down by myself. The decision to go independent with this project is half born of circumstance and the troubles of working all online, but also a desire to make something independently from the ground up. I haven’t really made a game by myself so far, and I want to explore the freedoms and challenges such work brings on.
