Statement

This body of work is an exploration of how we as individuals are constantly in search for a home. Through personal investigation I use a variety of painting and drawing mediums throughout the pieces in order to build up and recreate a home through my own history and personal relationships. We hold a strong relationship with our primary residence as the marker of home, but there are many more complexities to be considered.

These images are procured from personal instances which continue to impact my life today; they include family, friends, and places. The paintings hold a wide array of stylistic decisions, bouncing back and forth from a painterly approach to a more graphic one in an attempt to describe the intricacy of what goes into building a home. The conglomerate of image references plays into my own search to find where I belong, bringing together bright colors and a variety of textures in order to transport myself back to a child-like place in order to reconnect by instinct to a region after leaving it. Each subject is a component of the larger, abstracted paintings in a mash-up of sentimentality and yearning to belong.
