Statement
Bug Magic is a series of inky illustrations that explore the uniqueness and beauty of the insect world. Elements of line, shape, texture and pattern depict insects through a graphic eye.
The natural world is an endless source of inspiration, full of tactility and meaning that continually appears throughout my work. I take every opportunity to explore themes in nature, to shine a light on our environment, and ask the viewer to take a second look.
Often overlooked and underestimated, insects are incredibly important partners that deserve more understanding. In a way, Bug Magic is my homage to these tiny yet essential creatures.
Completed, Bug Magic will include 30 black & white illustrations accompanied by short texts including a collection of related scientific facts, quotes, and poem excerpts. Bug Magic is intended for all ages. It will bring a greater awareness and appreciation of bugs, with a wider acceptance and celebration of insects everywhere, but especially in your own backyard!
