Stephen Hendee is a sculptor who exhibits at a national and international level in museums and galleries.

He has had substantial exhibition projects through PS.1 Contemporary Art Center, The New Museum, Sculpture Center, The Whitney Museum Of American Art at Altria, Henry Urbach Architecture, Jeff Bailey Gallery, all in NYC. National exhibitions include: The Smart Museum, Chicago, St. Louis Art Museum; The New Britain Museum of American Art; SECCA, Winston Salem, NC, Rice University Art Gallery, Houston; Carl Solway Gallery, Cincinnati, OH.

After receiving degrees in sculpture from the San Francisco Art Institute and Stanford University, his work has been recognized with prestigious awards and grants by the Pollock Krasner Foundation, a Louis Tiffany Comfort award, an Elizabeth Foundation grant, the Kirin Contemporary Art Award in Japan, a New Jersey Council on the Arts Fellowship, and has been awarded residencies at the Marie Walsh Sharpe Foundation in 1997 and the Headland Center for the Arts in 2001. Recent awards include a 2007 Nevada Arts Council Individual Artist Fellowship and a residency at the MacDowell Colony in 2008. He recently produced “The Ice Next Time”, a speculative historical examination of textiles and crafts from our future, produced at a Goldwell Open Air Museum Red Barn residency in April 2010. The exhibition will be presented next at the old Grand Rapids Public Museum as part of ArtPrize 2012, and curated by Paul Amenta.

Upcoming exhibits include a solo exhibition May through July 2012 at the Clark County Government Center Rotunda Gallery in Las Vegas NV, organized by Wendy Kveck.
