As a state-approved certification program for the state of Maryland, the Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T. ) program at MICA requires the completion of all teaching certification requirements prior to graduation. This includes, but is not limited to, the successful completion of both Praxis Core and II examinations.

Praxis Core is the academic skills test which contains three separate sections: Reading, Writing, and Mathematics. Passing the Praxis Core test is an entry requirement for the MAT program at MICA.

Praxis II is the art subject area test which must be passed prior to completion of the MAT. Praxis II must be passed in the spring of the first year for two year students and in spring of the senior year for 5 year students.

*The MAT program at MICA does not accept SAT scores in lieu of the successful completion of Praxis Core.
