Maryland Institute Queer Alliance
The Maryland Institute Queer Alliance (MIQA) provides a variety of programming, support, education, and social activities for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, straight, and questioning students at MICA. Faculty and Staff Queer Alliance
Faculty and Staff Queer Alliance (FASQA) is comprised of MICA staff and faculty members that meet on a regular basis for event-planning, fundraising, networking, and socializing. We also serve in a mentor-capacity to the students and the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community at MICA; having many collaborations with MIQA, the LGBT student organization for undergraduate students. Broad goals include outreach, awareness, advocacy, and LGBTQ scholarship.

FASQ Award
The FASQA Award was created by MICA's Faculty and Staff Queer Alliance (FASQA) to recognize student achievement and contributions to the LGBTQI community. While all MICA students are eligible to apply for the award, preference will be given to applicants who identify as LGBTQ. Two prizes will be awarded for the 2017-2018 academic year: one $500 prize will be awarded to a student with demonstrated financial need and one $500 prize will be awarded to a student who demonstrates involvement with and/or commitment to the LGBTQ community and issues, regardless of financial need.

MICA Safe Zone Training
The MICA Safe Zone Training, an introductory training about the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, and asexual (LGBTQIA) community. It is our hope that Safe Zone participants will be able to promote a more welcoming atmosphere for LGBTQIA members of the MICA community. Safe Zone covers a broad range of topics including the coming out process, LGBTQIA terminology, and trans issues. After completing both Safe Zone Training, participants will receive a placard to hang in their space (e.g. office, room, etc.)

Maryland Institute College of Art is committed to its policy of providing equal opportunity regardless of race, color, creed, national origin, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, marital status, age, or disability. MICA strives to be a welcoming community and is continuing to create policies and guidelines to help students navigate their time spent here.
The Center for Identity and Inclusion has created a Transgender Student Resources Guide to support transgender students during their time at MICA.
Scholarships for LGBTQ Students
The Point Foundation - LGBTQ Scholarship
The Point Foundation gives promising LGBTQ students a greater chance to achieve their full academic and leadership potential. The organization awards scholarships to high achievers who demonstrate strong leadership skills and community orientation.
PFLAG - National Scholarship Program
Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays are a national non-profit that raises awareness about issues in this community of health and well-being. Awards range from $1,000 to $5,000 and are available to those who identify themselves as LGBTQ or as a straight ally.
League Foundation - LGBT Scholarship
The League Foundation is an organization dedicated to providing financial support to LGBT community members so they can achieve their dreams of higher education. The group has awarded more than 100 scholarships since 1997 in the amounts of $1,500 to $2,500. Applicants must identify as LGBT and be enrolled at an accredited institution, college, university or trade school.
NWSA Scholarships
The National Women's Studies Association was created as a forum for the discussion of topics surrounding women and gender. One of its primary objectives is to continue promoting this subject through teaching, learning, research, and service. Their scholarships award individuals who actively continue to pursue and develop women's studies. Applicants must be an individual member of the association.
Gamma Mu Foundation Scholarships
The Gamma Mu social organization has a rich history of "good men making a difference." The organization has worked for over 40 years to develop an open community for gay male professional and business executives. The scholarship of $1,000 to $2,500 is awarded to gay men under the age of 35 who have exhibited leadership and involvement in the gay community. The recipient must be enrolled in an accredited institution, college, university or trade school.
APA Division 44 Maylon-Smith Scholarship Award
American Psychological Association's Division 44 focuses on LGBT research in psychology. To support continued scientific exploration, the $1,000 award is given to a full-time graduate student in a department of psychology.
Pride Foundation Scholarships
The Pride Foundation is dedicated to helping LGBTQ students, as well as straight allies in the Pacific Northwest, achieve their academic goals. The foundation requires one application that covers over 40 different scholarships. They give awards in a variety of areas to those who have shown perseverance in the face of obstacles. Applicants must be from the Northwest U.S., and preference is given to those who identify as LGBTQ or individuals with strong connections to the LGBTQ community.
