With so many resources and services, inevitably our patrons have questions. Luckily, we have answers.

Decker Library offers a lot of resources for our patrons. As a result, we encourage users to check in with us as they navigate our stacks and space. Our Help section is meant to provide answers for any common questions you may have. For more about these issues and beyond, please feel free to reach out to us: circ@mica.edu.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I submit my graduate theses?

A: Please take a look at our Graduate Theses page. There you'll find a Google Form link (where you will submit a PDF/A of your work and provide information about you/the work) and resources such as Creating a PDF/A File and Archive-Friendly Files

Q: Can I keep using the library after I graduate?

A: Decker Library is open to the public for art and design research, which means alumni are free to use materials and databases on site after graduating.

If you're alum and you'd like to check out books or items from the Film and Video Collection, you can purchase an alumni card for $25 per year. Contact us at circ@mica.edu for more information.

Due to subscription licenses, alumni do not have access to research databases (articles, media, etc.) off-site.

Take a look at our Alumni Card page for more information.

Q: How do I find and look at artists' books?

A: There are a couple ways to find artists' books:

  1. Search the library catalog (type in an artist's name, keyword, etc.).
  2. Browse digitized items from this collection on Digital Decker. Remember: not everything from our artists' books collection is digitized and on Digital Decker.

You can view artists' books during the hours the Research Help desk is open. During the academic semester, our hours are:

Monday through Thursday: 12pm-6pm

Friday: 12pm-4:30pm

Saturday and Sunday: 12pm-6pm

Questions? Contact us at refer@mica.edu.

Q: Can I print things in the library?

A: Yes, you can print documents from any computer in the library and from your laptop or desktop, and payment should be made using your MICARD. Due to the volume of printing and lack of calibrated printers, we suggest printing any art and design-related material that consists of more than simply text at Art Tech Center. Black and white or color printing costs $0.50 per page.

See the Printing and Scanning page for more information.

Q: How do I renew materials I've checked out?**

A: Take a look at the Renew Materials page!

Q: I can't find a book, film, or article through Decker Library's resources. What do I do?

A: You can either suggest we purchase it, or request that we borrow an item on your behalf from another library (a service called Interlibrary Loan). Take a look at the Borrow from Other Libraries page for more information.
