Fines & Holds

Information for when you've kept something for too long, or if you'd like us to pull an item and set it aside for you on Hold.

Fines

If you are returning an item late, the library will charge $1.00 per day the item is late. Items are considered lost if not returned within one month past its due date. If lost, the borrower is charged the item's full replacement cost along with a $25.00 processing fee per item.

Holds

Sometimes you won't be in the library when you search the catalog, but you will find an item that would be useful for your needs. If you find yourself in this position, you can place an item on Hold. The Access Services team will pull the item if it is available in the library and place it on Hold for you to pick up at the Access Services desk (first floor, directly across the library entrance).

Please note: Items do not get pulled immediately! You will receive an email confirmation when the item you've placed on Hold is ready for pick up.

Items will remain on Hold for one week. You can view all your holds as well as other account information on the library catalog under My Account.

You can also place a Hold on items that are on-order (ordered but has not yet shipped) and materials that are checked out.

To Place an Item on Hold:

  1. From the library catalog, click Log In in the upper left corner and enter your MICA username and password
  2. Click on My Account
  3. Search the item in the catalog search box (using keywords, author name, or title)
  4. Click the Select an Action drop down menu
  5. Click Place Hold(s)

Please feel free to contact Access Services at 410-225-2272 or at circ@mica.edu, or stop by the Access Services desk with any questions.
