Jennifer Coates
Jennifer Coates is a painter who explores the intersection of the edible and the interstellar. Her most recent shows were at Freight & Volume Gallery and The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. She teaches at the New York Academy of Art and SUNY Purchase. She was the recipient of the Stewart/MacMillan Endowed Chair in Painting at MICA in 2015-2016. She has written art criticism for Time Out NY, Art in America, The Brooklyn Rail, and Modern Painters.
Alex Kwartler
September 19, 2017: Alex Kwartler had had solo exhibitions including Pain Quotidien (Magenta Plains, New York, NY 2016) and A Superficial Lyric (Nathalie Karg Gallery, New York, NY, 2014). His work was included in group exhibitions at White Columns, Bortolami Gallery, Mitchell-Innes & Nash, Martos Gallery, Casey Kaplan, Petzel Gallery, Wallspace, and MoMA PS1, and in publications including The New York Times, The New Yorker, Frieze, Artforum, and Art in America. It is also featured in Painting Abstraction, Phaidon Press. Kwartler received his MFA from Rutgers University and his BFA from The Cooper Union, where he has also taught.
Terry Winters
October 3, 2017: Terry Winters was born in New York in 1949. His work has been the subject of numerous museum surveys including the Tate Gallery, the Walker Art Center, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, the Whitney Museum of American Art, IVAM, Centre Julio Gonzales, Valencia, the Whitechapel Art Gallery, Kunsthalle Basel, and the Irish Museum of Modern Art. Retrospectives of his drawings and prints have been organized by the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Pinakothek der Moderne, Munich, and the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Copenhagen. In 2013 Winters was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Letters. He is represented by Matthew Marks Gallery in New York and Los Angeles. Winters received a BFA from Pratt Institute.
Kyle Staver
October 10, 2017: Kyle Staver lives in New York. She is the recipient of a Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship (2015) and The American Academy of Arts and Letters Purchase Prize (2015). Staver is also recognized as a distinguished member of the National Academy of New York. Her work has been exhibited in The Pennsylvania College of Art & Design, Kent Gallery, Steven Harvey Fine Art Projects, The American Academy of Arts & Letters, and The National Academy. Staver received her BFA from Minneapolis College of Art and Design and her MFA in Painting from Yale University.
Mark Thomas Gibson
October 31, 2017: Mark Thomas Gibson (b. 1980) lives and works in New Haven, CT, where he is currently a Critic and Assistant Dean of Student Relations at Yale School of Art.
Gibson co-curated the exhibition Black Pulp!, which has traveled from Yale University to IPCNY and other locations. In 2016 Gibson's first book, Some Monsters Loom Large was published with a grant assistance from the Foundation of Contemporary Arts. It was reissued in a second edition in partnership with IPCNY. Gibson is represented by Fredericks Freiser Gallery, New York. He is working on a second book to be released in 2017 by Edition Patrick Frey, Zurich. Gibson received his BFA from The Cooper Union and his MFA from Yale University School of Art. At Yale Gibson received the 2013 Ely Harwood Schless Memorial Fund Award.
Catherine Howe
November 7, 2017: Catherine Howe was born in New York state in 1959. Howe has exhibited throughout the United States and Europe for over twenty years, including shows at the Corcoran Gallery of Art, MoMA PS 1, and the Albright-Knox Art Gallery. Recent gallery representation includes Von Lintel Gallery, Los Angeles, Lesley Heller Workspace, New York; and William Shearburn Gallery, St. Louis. Her work has been reviewed in Art in America, Artforum, Art Critical, The New York Times, The New Yorker, and The Los Angeles Times. Howe received an MFA from SUNY Buffalo in 1983.
Elliott Green
November 14, 2017: Elliott Green (b. 1960) lives and works in New York City and Athens, New York. Since 1985 he has shown at New York galleries including Fawbush, Postmasters, Tibor de Nagy, and Pierogi. He has received a John Simon Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship, a Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant, and The Rome Prize.
Melissa Meyer
November 21, 2017: Melissa Meyer has had many solo exhibitions including those at Holly Solomon Gallery, Elizabeth Harris Gallery and Lennon Weinberg Gallery, New York; Rebecca Ibel Gallery, Columbus, Ohio; and Galerie Renee Ziegler, Zurich, Switzerland. Her painting has been the subject of two traveling exhibitions at the New York Studio School and at Swarthmore College. Her work has recently been included in group exhibitions at the Jewish Museum, Texas Gallery, Montclair Art Museum, the Hyde Collection, and the National Academy of Design. Meyer has completed public commissions in New York, Tokyo, and Shanghai and is working on a mural for the U.S. embassy in Kyrgyzstan. Her work is in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the Brooklyn Museum, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Jewish Museum. Meyer was awarded a Rome Prize and has received grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Pollock Krasner Foundation. She received both a BS and an MA from New York University.
