Beyond College Walls: Speaking from the Art

Foundation faculty member Allison Yasukawa and MICA students collaborated with the Druid Heights Community Center in Baltimore for the Elements of Visual Thinking class. Through this project, students who are non-native speakers of English exchanged ideas and information about art and life with members of the Druid Heights community.
The partnership provided a learning opportunity for both parties and concluded with a presentation of artwork to the community that students created based on their conversations. Projects such as this represent the core values of participation, collaboration, and engagement that characterize MICA’s English as a Second Language Pilot Initiative.
